Goldie

Goldie is made up from Vintage Kantha Scraps and a washed textual Linen and a Vintage time worn, stains and all, twill fabric doll body.

The slow stitching is done with Cotton embroidery threads in Gold, Fuchsia, and White as well some Black darning thread.  The eyes are appliqued Kantha scraps.

Her arms were crooked, so we resewed them back on letting her sweet ceramic hands remain.  She had seams up the front of her legs which has been top stitched for extra emphasis that continues down through her boots, made of linen.  The bottom portion of the boots are the original leather, and one side has been stitched to replace the missing leather heel of the right boot.

Her earrings are Milagros, and her necklace is a Vintage piece from Morocco that I brought back from a trip in 80’s.

My thoughts as I was working on Goldie was that she once was in the movies but now she just wants to be left alone.  Her eyes are shut, and she is not really confronting real life after abandoning her film career or…maybe she never really did.

She is rather bored with it all.  Her eyelashes are a bit like Greta Garbo lashes casting shadows like you see in old Hollywood Black and White portraiture type photography.
